These paintings are of the Wyld valley in Dorset where I am so lucky to live these days. It really is spelt “wYld” that’s the name of the stream that runs through it. It’s strange I haven’t painted more of these, I love those subtle English colours, but I’m sure I will in future. The two side-by-side are of Lambert’s Castle, an iron age hill fort, looking East towards Portland, and West, thickets of ancient crab-apples and rowans where for centuries people gathered to race their ponies round the hilltop. A magical place.
